Chichigua is a Haitian community nestled in a sugarcane field and is home to about 130 people. It was started when the sugarcane industry was thriving and Haitian men were brought over from Haiti seasonally to cut sugar cane. Since living conditions were better than in Haiti, whole families started moving in and the close knit community was formed. Pastor Mares, who pastored the only church in this community, connected with Makarios in the beginning and has been involved in the work of Makarios since.
