Juleissy is a third grader from Tamarindo. She is friendly, kind, and considerate. Like most third graders, you can find her coloring, jumping rope, and playing with her friends. Thanks to supporters like you, Juleissy is able to attend the Makarios School where she gets a faith-based education. This past school year was a little different though.
God used her education to change her life... AND her family.
As a part of their school curriculum, Juliessy’s class spent the year discussing “The Promises of God.” Each time Juliessy’s teacher, Profe Manielis, would talk about the promises of God, she would tell her students: “If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, you are a child of God and this promise applies to you.” One day, Juleissy went to Manielis and said, “Profe, I want these promises of God to apply to me.” Manielis asked if Juleissy wanted to accept Christ as her Lord and Savior so that she could be a child of God. Juleissy said yes and accepted Christ that day!
As the year progressed, Juleissy’s understanding of the gospel deepended. Her class read a book called, The Garden, The Curtain, and The Cross by Carl Laferton that tells the story of the gospel from creation to resurrection, and the part we play in the story. They talked about how God created a perfect world that was broken by sin, but how we have the opportunity to get back to that perfect world through putting our faith in Christ. Juleissy showed a desire to get back to the paradise that God intended for us and she understood that the only way to get there is through Jesus.
The good news doesn't end there...
Juleissy’s mom, Mercedes, also accepted Christ this school year during a discipleship course with Family Empowerment! During a home visit with Makarios staff, she was asked how Juleissy was doing in her faith. Mercedes: “Oh, she’s doing great. In fact, we started walking to a little church here in Tamarindo, but soon after starting that Juleissy wasn’t satisfied. She also wanted her friends to know Christ; so now we walk across the river to Pancho Mateo to get her friends, and we take them to church with us.”
Later on in the school year another ministry in another town called and asked if we had any outstanding parents who might be looking for work because they had a couple of positions to fill.
We sent Mercedes as we understood that they had a cleaning job available. Mercedes was excited because she knew she could do a good job cleaning. When she got there to apply for the cleaning position, she was told it was a position managing the entire cleaning staff. She believed God had provided an opportunity for her, and she wasn’t going to let it pass without faithfully following through as well as she could. Mercedes said, “You know what, God has really been at work in my life lately. I came to know Christ earlier this year, and in fact, I think God set this whole meeting up because I don't know you and you don't know me, but you called Makarios and they sent me here, so I'm going to go ahead and interview even though I'm not qualified.” She got the job!
God is intimately involved in all of the details of our lives. He has empowered this little home and His children with His confidence, and He is changing them from the inside out.
