JOB DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY TITLE:
Teacher, English as a Foreign Language
MAKARIOS SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT:
Makarios will increase educational opportunities based on Biblical truths in order to empower underserved children to positively affect their communities.
TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the Makarios Schools’ mission and community.
2. Deep conviction, understanding and acceptance of The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
3. Ability to provide structure and organization in the classroom for successful execution of lesson plans.
4. Proficiency in the Spanish Language.
5. Experience leading, teaching, and disciplining children.
6. Posses an entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school and go above and beyond to meet varied and constant needs of the students of Makarios.
7. Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful, and willing to do whatever it takes to help our students reach a level of academic success that develops mature, able, and responsible Christians and leaders in their communities to the praise and glory of God.
8. Commitment to continue professional development individually.
9. Willingness and commitment to implement classroom and school management practices that are consistent with the culture of the school.
REPORTS TO:
Principal
The Principal will be responsible to specify an alternate person to report to should the circumstance arise.
SUPERVISES:
Teacher’s Assistants, volunteers, and when appropriate members of short-term mission trips.
JOB GOAL:
The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn English in a way that will contribute to their ability to find employment and to develop as Christians and leaders in their communities to the praise and glory of God.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Instructional Leadership:
1. Develop academic lessons aligned with the Makarios English program standards, values, and curriculum.
2. Weekly/monthly lesson plans are to be turned into the Principal at the onset of each week.
3. Through the daily use of Lesson Plans teachers will meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students; challenging each to do his/her best work.
4. Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
5. Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
6. Use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment or project work.
7. Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure and/or lack of progress.
8. Willingness to receive constructive feedback and support from supervisors as well as from and to colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement.
9. Implement classroom management procedures/strategies consistent with the culture, mission and core values of the school.
B. School/Community Relations:
1. Represent the school in the light of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, recognizing the mission and vision of Makarios.
2. Work along side Short Term Mission Trip Liaison and Host Couple in service to short term mission trips when assistance is needed and/or delegated.
3. Help shape and develop a school wide atmosphere that aligns with the mission and core values of the school by developing and maintaining a rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and respect.
4. Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority.
5. Will make a priority to notify administration of any policy or procedure he/she is unable to support.
6. Make a dedicated effort to appreciate, respect, and accept the uniqueness of the school culture and the culture of the community the Makarios school serves.
7. Motivate and encourage students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.
8. Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises that align with school standards for a safe and appropriate learning environment.
9. Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service, retreats, committee, faculty and Parent Teacher Fellowship meeting.
10. Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent, and understanding.
COMPENSATION
Individual will raise their full budget for the year, which covers monthly salary and start up costs. Makarios will work with you in this process.
